What makes a food medicinal?

A therapeutic dose is one that has shown in research to have a beneficial effect in the body. In this case we are looking at probiotics. These yoghurt’s contain therapeutic doses of specific strain probiotics.

  • Vaalia yoghurt contains a particular probiotic called lactobacillus rhamnosus GG ( L. casei GG). It is the ‘GG’ or strain component that has shown to benefit the immune system. By decreasing inflammation and reducing likelihood of eczema in children.
  • Activia yoghurt contains a particular probiotic called bifidobacterium animalis DN-173 010. It is the strain that has been shown to be beneficial in constipation by increasing transit time. Research has also shown the strain is beneficial for those suffering from IBS with a tendancy to constipation.

We are not advocating these products – just the probiotics and strains in them.

If you want to avoid the sugars in these products you could alternatively choose your own biodynamic yoghurt and add a quality practitioner brand such as Metagenics Ultra Flora restore which has also been tested to contain therapeutic doses of these strains of probiotics.

We will have more information available soon on how to choose a probiotic so you are not wasting your money on a dead culture, and when to take them.
